Parent-Student Meeting - October 2, 2007

WELCOME:

Debbie and Kieth Stevens  (Debbie Wade was absent)

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Car Wash: Kevin Ary  Kevin McCarney
The car wash is this Saturday, October 6th.  We need more sign ups for the 12:30 & on shift.  Parents will be in charge of the hoses this time, to be certain cars get rinsed well.  Bring step ladders if you have them.  Concession donations needed, esp. donuts & teacakes.  Students will get contract points.  Last car wash & pancake breakfast raised @ $2500.  Contact Kevin McCarney at mrmas@mac.com for more info.

Rummage Sale:   Becky Encinias – Sign up sheets / Volunteers &  Donations.  The rummage sale is also this Saturday, Oct. 6th in the parking lot next to the car wash (across the street from the school).  Becky will be there at 6 am for people to start dropping of items for sale.  NO TOYS as we can’t get rid of them afterwards if they don’t sell due to lead recall issues.  We also need help if you have a truck to drop off leftovers at various thrift stores in the neighborhood once the sale is over.  Questions:  Call Becky at 384-0942

Pali Mountain Camp: Kevin Ary and Connie Trimble Pali Camp is Oct. 12 - 14.  The choir room/auditorium door will be open at 6:30 am on Friday the 12th for parents to bring their student’s belongings.  Meds will be checked in at this location as well.  Medications must be in their original containers with the student’s name on it (DO NOT BRING LOOSE PILLS IN BAGGIES!!!!).  Lenora Aguilera (BUSD school nurse) and Teresa Maynes (BUSD school health asst.) will be present to check in the medications.

When your child packs their belongings, be sure they bring everything on the list of clothing required.  Also, it gets chilly, so pack a jacket.  Do not forget a sleeping bag and pillow.  Students also need to bring a lunch or lunch money on Friday for school as we do not leave for camp until after lunch time.

Students will be allowed to leave their backpacks locked in the choir room for the weekend, or take them along to Pali, if they wish.  Remember bring valuables at your own risk.

We will be returning from camp around 4 or 5 pm on Sunday.  Students will call from cell phones when we get close to the school.  We will need to unload the trucks upon return, so be patient in waiting for your child.  Also, remember to pick up any medications from Lenora when you come to pick up your student.

Burroughs on Broadway: Oct. 26, 27, Bron Savage and Teri Richardson
We still need items for the opportunity baskets.  Theater tickets are great, as are musical DVDs & CDs.  We need to fill baskets for two shows so duplicates are OK.  Contact Teri at motogirl812@aol.com

Saturday cabaret seating is almost sold out.  Get your ticket orders in, especially if you want to sit together.  We also need volunteers to pass out flyers around town.  Volunteer sign up sheet was sent around.  Other volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs, everything from removing seats in the auditorium and to taking dishes home to wash after the event.  Contact Bron at bbsavage@aol.com

Pop Show Auditions:  Nov 3

Auditions are coming up quickly--start rehearsing now!  Pop Show is our big four performance event.  Auditions can be solo, duets, or groups.  A variety of music is encouraged.  Students pick their own groups, songs & choreography.  You must bring sheet music.  Choir VPs are responsible for chaperoning on audition day.  If you are not able to chaperone, please find someone to cover for you.

Classical Festivals:
Nov. 6 – Chamber @ Fullerton
Nov. 7 - Decibelles @ Irvine

Nov. 13 - Sound Waves

Nov. 15 - Madrigals @ Redlands

Classical festivals are great exposure and experiences for our students.  The above dates are tentative.

Disneyland Trips:  Dec 2 – Chamber, Dec 13 – Madrigals

All choirs will have performances at Disneyland, we do not know the actual dates until approximately 30 days prior to the performance.

Chamber’s performance is part of a Disney tradition called “Candlelight”.  They will be performing with 800 other students.  They will spend the day at Disneyland rehearsing and then perform twice in the evening.  As compensation each Chamber student will receive two tickets to Disneyland to return on their own at a later date to enjoy the park.

Madrigals will tentatively be performing on December 13.  They will perform a variety of holiday numbers in the Carnation Plaza.

Holiday Spectacular:  Dec. 7, 8

Holiday musical performance by all choirs at Burroughs.  The first half of the show is classical music and the second half is more festive.  Scott Dove will be designing the sets.  We will also have trees that have been decorated by each choir available as an auction/fundraiser.
