UPCOMING EVENTS:

Music Showcase April 12 – Debbie Wade/ Denise Johnson

Lots of volunteers still needed for this coming Saturday.  Music Showcase is the competition that we host at Burroughs.  We will need volunteers from 7:00 am until midnight.  Please sign up to help, even an hour or two is much appreciated.

We still have openings for Bus Greeters, Concessions, Security, and a variety of other spots.  Call or e-mail Denise Johnson at 818-260-9763 or denalt@sbcglobal.net or Debbie Wade at 818-843-4122 or dwade56@charter.net .

We also need loans of the following:
8 E-Z ups

2 crock pots

10 – 12 ice chests

free standing lights (to plug in in the quad for extra lighting outside)

Label all items with your name and bring to the choir room on Friday between 3 pm & 6 pm.

Also we need concessions donations.....water, soda, cookies, chips, etc.  These can also be dropped off on Friday pm.  If you are donating fresh items like Martino's or donuts, please bring them on Saturday.  NOTE:  We do not need any donations of popcorn, as we will have a popcorn machine.  Contract points available for all snack donations.

Students who are hosting choirs need to dress nice.  At the same time though, remember, school dress code applies (i.e. no spaghetti straps, etc.).  Tech and other student helpers are to wear black pants and their choir shirts.  Adult volunteers should dress comfortable and wear your Burroughs' ID tag if you have one.

Morning shifts start at 7:00 am and the afternoon shifts start at 3:30 pm.  Thank you in advance to all!

Chula Vista Competition

Chula Vista competition is coming up on April 19th at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.  All choirs will be going to this competition as follows:
7:00 am  @ Burroughs for Decibelles, Sound Sensations, Powerhouse & Men @ Work

11:30 am @ Burroughs for Sound Waves

6:00 pm (ish) Decibelles return to Burroughs

9:00 pm (ish) Sound Waves return to Burroughs

1:00 – 2:00 am Sound Sensations, Powerhouse & Men @ Work return to Burroughs

Please check your child's costume and be sure it is clean and all pieces are there.

Also, if you ordered tickets for this event, Tony Atienza (Chula Vista's choir director) will be hand delivering them to Diane Holbert this Saturday at Music Showcase (just another good reason to come and volunteer at Showcase.....so you can pick up your tickets!).

Also, there will be a live feed for the Advanced Competitions on the website:  Showchoir.com, so if you are not able to make the Chula Vista Competition, you will be able to watch it live from your computer (barring technical difficulties).

Workshops and Auditions April 28 – May 3

Spring Concert – May 16

This is a concert where the first half consists of classical sets by each choir and the second half is the last time each choir will perform their competition set.  Also, at the end of the performances, all the new choir members will be announced and called up to the stage.

Banquet  May 21 – Castaways

The choir banquet is for all choir members and their families.  It is a lovely buffet dinner held at the Castaways in Burbank.  Ticket information will be available soon.  Shelly Benedict is the coordinator for this event and she will need help with set up, decorations, etc.  Prizes will also be raffled off for the students so we are looking for donations for these items.  Things like gift cards for i-Tunes, Jamba Juice, movies, and items like DVDs, CDs, etc. are always appreciated.

Chairmanships for 2008-2009

If you enjoyed your position this year and would like to do it again and we don't hear from you ... we will assume that you would like to do it again next year.  If you are not planning on holding that job next year, please inform Debbie Stevens at  DebbieStevens@burbankusd.org or Debbie Wade at dwade56@charter.net to let them know.  If you want a new job or would like to co-chair a position, please let them know that information as well.  Volunteers are greatly needed!

In-Debts

If you still owe a balance on your choir account, you have the next week to pay it off to the choir via check or cash.  After that, a list will be going to the student store and you will be required to pay off your account through—cash only.  In addition, you will not be allowed to purchase prom tickets, get graduation tickets, etc. until your in-debts are cleared.  Student who are not graduating and have a balance on their account will be allowed to try out for choir for next year, but they will not be told what choir they were accepted into until their balance is paid up.
